Nov 14 I added a big section in my terrain building tips on how to make great looking hills, on a pretty tight budget. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Welcome to Red Dragon Terrain
Located in Vancouver Canada, I've been building terrain of my own for years, and use the structural and landscape techiques as educational tools in an Elementary School classroom. I've found that kids love the hands on creativity that the hobby allows, and it really puts life into study of different cultures and historical periods. I've learned a great deal from other hobbyists over the years, and I am trying to pass along some of that knowledge in my "Terrain Building Tips" section. If you have any specific questions, always feel free to send me a note, I'll try to help if I can.
The commercial part of my endevour, Red Dragon Terrain, produces quality terrain suitable for a variety of game systems including Flames of War, Warhammer 40K, Lord of the Rings and Role Playing Games, or RPG. My castle and towers are scaled for 28mm miniatures, but the trees and hills work with any wargame miniatures. Model railway builders will find the scale buildings a unique addition to their layouts, and my pre-made tree selections will take a lot of the work out of creating a quality rail layout.
My buildings are made from Hirst Art bricks (featured in White Dwarf magazine), and master cast in easy to use slabs. This allows you to have the benefit of proven quality design without having to cast, glue and build with hundreds of individual bricks. All you have to do is complete the building process by gluing the slabs together, and paint them in your favorite scheme. These buildings are all perfectly scaled for 28mm wargames, and are built with maximum playabilty in mind, featuring fully removeable roofs to get figures in and out of them. Bruce Hirst has a great website filled with useful info, and Red Dragon Terrain is a liscenced distributor of those products. My scenic terrain is made from top quality products sourced from both North America and Europe. I use Scenic Express model railroad products, and combine their materials with imported Scandanavian Seafoam and German Noch brand products. Tree and hill stands are hand carved and finished with a layer of ground texturing paste to create smooth rolling contours. Top this off with several different ground cover textures, and I think you have a scenic piece second to none.

Raised Pillbox and Trench System 28mm
This is a large, very well detailed and elaborate terrain piece that I've been working on for a while.
The
defences include a four pronged dugout trench, along with a supply of
fully removeable sandbag pieces to give troops full cover. The center
of the trench is expanded to allow heavy weapon placement or small
armour to go hull down.
The
anchor of the defence has to be the concrete pillbox cast from solid
hydrostone (shipped in unfinished slabs) and featuring a removeable
roof for troop placement. The rock outcropping has been designed to
place the pillbox on top, but as the building is not glued down, you
can use it anywhere you like.
Ground
cover is modelled with a variety of textures, including static grass
applied with Noch's Electrostatic Applicator for grass that stands
almost vertical, like grasses in a real field. Further texture is added with both open and closed cell foams, giving a really nice, varied and natural look to the piece.

Huge Gothic Castle 28mm
This unique design was handcrafted from quality Hirst Arts Gothic style bricks and master molded to provide an affordable centerpiece for your wargaming table.I'm not sure of the measurements as I write this, but I'd be close in saying it stands in at an enormous 30" by 30" size. Thats 900 square inches of castle to beseige...Walls stand in at 5-6 inches, depending on whether its a side wall or a tower battlement. It consists of 8 tower sections, each of which has three playable level accessed by removeable floor sections. Connecting these are the 8 wall sectons, over 1.5 inches thick. I think one of the best features I've incorporated into this project is the versatility and playablity of the castle itself. Each tower features three fully playable levels accessed by removeable floor pieces. All the walls and towers are free standing, permitting an endless amount of variation in play. The model is cast in both granite hard USG hydrostone and super-strong Smooth Cast 320 plastic, for the floors and battlements. The model comes shipped in unpainted slabs, allowing you the freedom to work your own color scheme into your terrain. Its pretty easy to assemble it, just using good white glue, and painting is a snap. The figure in the picture is a 28mm model, from Games Workshop Lord of the Rings series.

Premium Quality Deciduous Tree Stand
This is one of the products I make that I feel stands out as a really exceptional piece of gaming terrain. I sourced out the best tree armatures available for scale model detail, and added a leaf flock that individually models leaves on the tree. I put 3 of these trees on a base made from industrial plastic, 1mm thick, and cover it in a variety of ground textures and covers. I've had nothing but compliments on these pieces, and they continue to be a high demand item. The nice thing about this piece is that it works as well for 28mm wargames as it does for other scales, like 15mm for games like Flames of war.

Evergreen Tree Stand
This is the Evergreen version of my tree stand series. It includes 2 large Pines, 2 medium Firs and 2 small shrubs. The trees are supplied unmounted with a scenic base and the materials to mount them, along with some scatter material to represent the dead needles at the tree base. The base itself is multi textured, and features four different layers of ground cover, along with light bush. Like my other tree stands, this one is also good for different scale games, both 28mm and 15mm (like Warhammer 40K and Flames of War). And since trees aren't period based, you can use it for swordplay one day and a gunfight the next.
